Parade Day 2

I went to another Saint Patricks day parade this weekend. This time it was in Old Town Manassas VA, and the weather was perfect. Instead of a cold overcast dreary day, we were blessed with a fairly warm sunny afternoon.

Once the parade got underway I worked my way up main street going from one side to the other to get a good vantage point and to have the best light. You can only take so many pictures of parade participants until it can become boring, so I also spent time scanning the crowd for interesting shot opportunities.

My cameras of choice for this event were the Olympus OM-D E-M5 with the great Zuiko 75mm f1.8 lens to capture most of the detail along with the Fuji X100 for wide angle shots. I am just smitten with this Zuiko lens. At an equivalent 150mm focal length you can really isolate your subject and create excellent bokeh.

I decided to go ahead and process most of the shots I liked in black and white since I am such a huge black and white fan. However for some of the pictures leaving them in color provided the most appealing image. The opening shot worked best in color due to the vibrant uniforms being worn by the bag pipers.
